Okay, so I had this puzzle, right? It was one of those cryptic ones, and the only clue was “look afar at the break of dawn.” I’m not gonna lie, it had me stumped for a bit.
I started by, you know, just staring at the phrase. “Look afar”… “break of dawn”… My brain was going in circles. Was it literal? Metaphorical? I had no clue.

My First Attempts
- First, I tried thinking about things associated with dawn. Sunrise, roosters, morning dew… nothing clicked.
- Then, I went down the “afar” rabbit hole. Distant lands, telescopes, binoculars… Still nothing.
- I even tried googling the phrase, hoping for some secret puzzle-solving society to reveal the answer. No such luck.
I was about ready to give up, honestly. But then, it hit me. “Break of dawn” could mean the beginning of something. And “look afar”… maybe it meant to look beyond the obvious?
The Breakthrough
So, I shifted my focus. Instead of thinking about the words themselves, I started thinking about what they represented. “Break of dawn” is the start of the day. What’s the “start” of the puzzle? The first letter of each word in the clue!
I took the first letter of each word:
- Look
- Afar
- At
- The
- Break
- Of
- Dawn
And there it was! “LATBOD.” I still had that ‘what?’ moment, tried unscrambled those, and finally get that ‘BLOATD’! That’s it! that is the final answer!
It was a total “aha!” moment. I felt like a genius, even though it probably took me way longer than it should have. All that work on the puzzle before, the frustration, the dead ends, It is quite fun!
