Okay, so I wanted to get my push-to-talk working right in Helldivers 2. It’s a team game, and I didn’t want my mic open all the time, picking up my heavy breathing and the dog barking. Gotta have that comms discipline, you know?
Figuring Out the Default Setting
First thing I did was jump into the game and mess around in the settings. I poked around in the audio options, naturally. Initially didn’t see, the option setting interface is not user-friendly.

Keybind Confusion
Then I looked at keybinds. My first mistake I found that Helldivers 2 doesn’t have a built-in keybind for push to talk within the game itself, but the setting is placed in the audio options.
Steam Settings to the Rescue
So, where do you set it? Turns out, it’s all handled through Steam itself. I had to:
- Open up Steam.
- Go to Steam > Settings.
- Click on the Voice tab.
In the “Voice” tab, I could finally see the “Push to talk” option. I had to:
- Select Push to talk, and I could change my hotkey by clicking CHANGE HOTKEY.
- Choose a key that wouldn’t interfere with my gameplay, I set the push to talk button to my mouse thumb button.
Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3
I hopped back into Helldivers 2 and tested it out. I pressed the mouse button, said a few test phrases, and my teammates confirmed they could hear me loud and clear. When I let go, silence. Perfect!
Now I can yell “For Super Earth!” without accidentally broadcasting my snack-munching sounds. Mission accomplished!
