Okay, so I’ve been wanting to play Overwatch 2 with my buddy, but he’s on Xbox and I’m a Steam guy. I was like, “Can we even do that?” So, I went on a little mission to figure it out.
My Cross-Play Adventure
First thing I did was fire up Overwatch 2 on my Steam Deck. Made sure everything was updated and good to go. Gotta have the latest version, you know?

Then, I poked around in the game settings. I was looking for anything that said “cross-play” or “linking accounts.” I found something about “cross-progression.” Sounded kinda related, but I figured “cross-progression,” is about my own stuff moving between the different platfroms, but not really about playing with others cross-platform.
Next, I needed my buddy’s info. He gave me his BattleTag, all ready for an invite to team up.
I went into the social menu in Overwatch 2, add friend, and type in my buddy’s Battletag info. Fingers crossed!
Boom! It worked! I found him, sent the invite, and he popped up in my friends list. Then I just created a group, invited him, and we were good to go.
We played a few rounds, no problem at all. It was smooth, no lag or anything weird. Total victory!
So, Can You Play Together?
Yep, you totally can! It’s super easy. Just add your friend using their BattleTag, and get playing.
